Sharing a Conversation about Genealogies

News Feed

Sharing a conversation about Genealogies....for kanaka maoli....hope you're doing yours because we are a genealogy based society and genealogies lock you in to your tutu's aina/families properties because you still own it, hold title to it through the alodio/ano alodial system which is Not the same as the American system:
Aloha no Amelia: I have a question. I have always been curious as to the inoa in my 'ohana of my 4th great grandfather, Opunui Makua Nuuhiwa...who I believe may have gone by the single inoa Opunui. I have information that he was born approximately 1787 and make approximately 1880.
I know that you are descendant of King Kamehameha III's son Opunui. Any idea if these two Opunui are related? I have heard rumor that we are related to Kamehameha III, but I have not been able to find documentation of this. Any kokua you could provide to enlighten me would be appreciated.
Mahalo nui.

well, Kamehameha III - Kauikeaouli had ten children: Keawe 1, Keawe 2 with Queen Kalama; Opunui, Kekipi, Mahoe (w); Keawe; Kahalaoa, Papa and Nalimu with Kekualoa (w), with Gini Lahilahi he had Albert Kunuiakea........ You'll have to track down the connections, our Opunui transaction with his sister Mahoe has been found connecting to some of my other ancestors...... there are many Opunui's as Alice Greenwood had discovered and research has to be done by the families showing proof.......which means you'll need to work with your family members to find your true Opunui....good luck.....btw genealogies are locked in to facts, documentation.......if you are part of our family, it would show other Kamehameha's children, their heirs and successors......
Your Opunui was born in 1787.... that would not be Kamehameha III's son.... Kamehameha III was born in 1813.....Kamehameha died in 1819. I am an heir of Opuainapeau/Opunui who was one of the early Alii's who accompanied Kamehameha to Kauai......but he was not Kamehameha III's son..... good luck in finding your ohana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvstzQIUXUo
